Mr. James E. Barner, 67, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, son of the late Curtis Lee, Sr. and Cora Mills Barner, was born on July 31, 1945. He departed this earthly life on Thursday, August 16, 2012.
James received his education through the public schools of Virginia. He later gained employment with the Cotton Gin in Weldon, North Carolina and The City of Roanoke Rapids for over 20 plus years.
On July 1, 1989, James united in Holy Matrimony to Gloria Jean Williams.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters: Beulah M. Solomon and Roberta Taylor.
James is survived by his wife, Gloria of the home; step-children: Gina Smith of Raleigh, NC, Dina Morgan (Michael) of Cary, NC and Corey Smith of Raleigh, NC; step-grandchildren: Kayla Coleman, Gina Jackson, Kareem Smith, Eric Morgan, Nya Churchville and Bradley Hobbs; sisters: Faye B. Faulcon of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Lorene B. Gatewood of Charlotte, NC; brothers: Curtis L. Barner and Willie L. Barner, both of Roanoke Rapids, NC; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; uncle: Randolph Barner of White Plains, VA; aunts: Shirley Walter of White Plains, VA, Bernice Edwards of Norwich, CT, Ruth Campbell of Philadelphia, PA and Rosa Boyd of Littleton, NC; nine nieces; seven nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.
A Visitation for Mr. Barner will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the Funeral Service following the Visitation, beginning at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, August 20, 2012, in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. The interment will take place after the Service in the London Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC.
